Student Loan Forgiveness Options

Student loan forgiveness allows borrowers to cancel or discharge their federal student loans in certain situations. This means that you would not have to pay back some or all your student loans. If you are Interested in student loan forgiveness, please review the options available for you below.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)

PSLF forgives the remaining balance of your Direct Loans after 120 qualifying payments (a minimum of 10 years.) Unlike other programs, PSLF doesn’t require you to teach at a low-income public school. Instead, PSLF requires that you work for a qualifying employer. This includes government organizations at any level (U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal), nonprofit organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or other nonprofit organizations that provide certain types of qualifying public services. If you’re employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, you might be eligible for the PSLF Program. The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you’ve made the equivalent of 120 qualifying monthly payments under an accepted repayment plan, and while working full-time for an eligible employer.
