SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR MAKING MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

General Supplies for Use in Making Various Instruments:

 

Paper towel rolls

Wrapping paper rolls

String

Rubber bands of all sizes

Glue – bottles and sticks

Tape

Markers

Drinking straws

Beads of any size and any material (e.g. glass, plastic, wood)

Fabric scraps

Craft and sewing items such as lace, ribbon, rickrack, piping, feathers,etc.

Yarn

Brass fasteners (like those used in folders)

Colorful stickers

 

 

IN ADDITION:

 

 

To Make Shakers:

 

Plastic Easter eggs

Small plastic cups

Small tins with lids

Colorful electrical tape (I saw this at King Soopers Marketplace in a set of five

          colors totaling 60 feet for $3)

Dry beans, peas, lentils, popcorn, rice

Pencils (for holding maraca-style shakers)

 

 

 

 

 

To Make Drums:

 

Pie tins of any size

Oatmeal or similar boxes of any size

Thin plastic flower pots – any size

Pencils (for drum sticks)

Large wooden beads (for drum sticks)

 

 

To Make Wind Chimes:

Hangers

Small items that make noise when knocked together and are not sharp (e.g, nuts,

 bolts, washers, large beads (glass, plastic, or wood), or other noisy things J

 

 

To Make Hanging Bells:

 

Small terra cotta or plastic flower pots

Jingle bells or other bells

Thick cord

 

 

To Make Sandblocks:

 

Sandpaper with grit of any coarseness

Wooden blocks, small thick plastic cups, foam rectangles, or other more imaginative

 base materials for the sandblocks

 

 

To Make Plucking Instruments:

 

Small cardboard boxes with lids
