We’re excited to share a progress update on construction at Palmer High School, including a major upcoming milestone that will soon be highly visible in the heart of downtown.

Precast Wall Installation and Crane Arrival

Beginning at the end of February, a large construction crane will arrive on site to support the delivery and installation of precast concrete wall panels for the new building addition.

This marks a significant phase of the project. As these panels are installed, the exterior of the new addition will come together quickly, giving the community its first clear sense of the building’s scale, form, and presence.

What the community will notice:

• A large crane on site near Palmer

• Rapid, visible progress as the building exterior takes shape

This phase represents a transition from foundational and structural work to the creation of the building’s exterior and identity.

Coordination with the City of Colorado Springs

Construction planning continues in close coordination with the City of Colorado Springs, including an anticipated City Council discussion in March related to the adjacent right-of-way that supports the long-term vision for the Palmer campus.

Looking Ahead: Renovation of the Historic Palmer Building

As work continues on the new building addition, the next major phase of the Palmer project will begin this summer inside the historic 1939 building.

This phase will focus on transforming key interior spaces to better support today’s students while honoring Palmer’s legacy. Planned improvements include the creation of a 21st-century student commons, increased natural daylighting, and a dramatic, ceremonial entrance and pre-function space that reflects Palmer’s role as a flagship high school in downtown Colorado Springs.

Together, these updates are designed to elevate the daily student experience, improve how students move through and gather within the building, and ensure Palmer continues to serve as a vibrant center of learning and community for generations to come.
