    Tesla Attendance
When calling a student in absent please be sure you include; your name, your students full name, the date of the absence, and the reason your student was absent.
(Please keep in mind that even if a parent calls their student in, the absence must meet the requirements of an excused absence to be excused.  Please see below for accepted excuses.)
Remember that if you have 10 absences in a class you cannot get credit for that class, regardless if they are excused or not. Absences that do not meet the criteria for excused will be considered unexcused and students will not be allowed to make up work for that absence.
    Attendance Expectations for all Students
There is a strong relationship between attendance and academic achievements; therefore you must be in class on time each and every day.  Parents need to call the attendance office to excuse absences.  If you are absent from school for a doctor's appointment or court appearance you must bring in appropriate documentation.  It is important for student/parent to understand that space at Tesla is limited; students that have excessive absences may be withdrawn and returned to their attendance area school.  For students under the age of 17 the truancy process could begin after several absences.  Colorado State Law requires under the age of 17 to attend school regularly.

    Excused Absence

    1.  A student who is temporarily ill or injured or whose absence is approved by the Administrator of the
         school of attendance
    2.  A student who is absent for an extended period due to physical, mental, or emotional disability
    3.  A student to whom a current age and school certificate or work permit has been issued pursuant to the
Colorado Youth Employment Opportunity Act of 1971, @ Article 12 of Title 8, C.R.S
    4.  A student who is in the custody of a court or law enforcement authorities
    5.  A student who is pursuing a work study program under the supervision of a public school.
    6.  Any other absence that is considered to be excused pursuant to law.

    Truancy
Truancy is considered habitual when a student misses 4 days in a 30 day span or 10 days in a school year.
Students who have excessive absences may be referred to the drop-out prevention specialist for Tesla
    Josh Shafer - 328-2056
Students who have been contacted by Mr. Shafer will need to have a doctors note or court documentation in order to excuse any additional absences.

What is the law regarding student attendance? (C.R.S. 22-33-104)

Every child between the ages of 6 and 17 years old shall attend school for at least 1056 hours each school year if in secondary school and 960 hours each school year if in elementary school.

Two of the most important factors in ensuring a child's educational development are parental involvement and parental responsibility.

It is the obligation of every parent to ensure that every child under such parent's care and supervision receives adequate education and training.

A truancy is any unexcused absence. An absence will be considered unexcused if it does not meet the guidelines established in C.R.S. 22-33-104 or School Board Policy JH. An unexcused absence will be coded with an "A" in the student database of record. Additionally, an absence will be marked unexcused if a valid excuse is not provided within 48 hours of the absence.

Chronic absenteeism occurs when a student misses 10% or more of any marking period whether excused or unexcused. (for example: 4 days in a quarter)

Truancy is considered habitual when a student misses 4 days in a 30 day span or 10 days in a school year.
