Ms. Cayla Fitzgerald

Hello Blackhawks!!

My name is Cayla Fitzgerald and I am lucky enough to be one of two school-based mental health providers at Audubon! To meet our awesome School Psychologist click here! Being born and raised in Colorado, I am a proud Colorado native! For two years I played college basketball at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and then finished out my undergrad at the University of Wyoming. Returning home to Colorado Springs, I received my Masters in K-12 School Counseling from UCCS. Before coming to Audubon I worked at a local high school as a grade-level counselor for three years. In my free time I love coaching basketball, playing and watching sports, doing photography and being with my dogs.

I am happily in my 4th year at Audubon as your School Counselor! My first three years were spent working within the Special Education department and this year had the amazing opportunity to move to the general education side and start leading our school with our new Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) curriculum. This curriculum is evidence-based, CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning) approved and a great tool to enhance our student's learning and help them to understand the ripple effect of kindness. There are six different units that teachers incorporate into the classroom throughout the year; respect, integrity, courage, caring, inclusiveness, and responsibility. Each unit consists of four lessons and two projects that each class does throughout the year. By the end of each year we hope that students leave with a better understanding of each of these concepts and how impactful kindness is to themselves, each other and the environment.
