• Good Morning Parents and Guardians,

As we are now only three weeks away from the end of the first semester, I would like to pass along some gentle reminders that are being shared with your student in classes by teachers and after lunch by our administrators.

With three more weeks in the grading period, there is still plenty of time for students to complete missing work, re-do tests or quizzes, and meet with their teachers for any assistance that might be needed. Allowing students to turn in missing work or complete a test retake is 100% at the teacher's discretion. Bottom line is, students should start having those conversations with their teachers now and not wait until the last couple of days in this grading period.

During the last week of the semester, we will also be administering the District 11 quarterly benchmark assessments for second quarter. Please encourage your student to put in their best effort. We will use the results to analyze growth, guide third quarter planning and intervention, make appropriate class / schedule changes, and allow participation in grade level quarterly incentive celebrations.

Finally, in May we hold an end-of-year incentive for students who have demonstrated high levels in HOW scores, competency attainment, and attendance. Specific requirements for this Excellence Picnic can be found on page 17 of our Student and Family Handbook located on the Holmes website.

Please discuss current progress with your student, and feel free to contact your student's teachers, counselor, grade level administrator, or myself should you have questions your student is unable to answer.

    Best Regards,

    Tony Karr, Principal

    Good Morning Holmes Families,

On November 12th, 2019, Holmes Middle School will present an assembly to honor Veterans in our community, thanking them for their service. This event will be coordinated by our orchestra teacher, Ms. Rachael Napper. We are hoping to proudly represent the military members within the Holmes community. If you or anyone in your family are military-affiliated and would like picture(s) shown at the assembly, please email the following to Ms. Napper at rachael.napper@d11.org:

    1. Picture(s)
    2. Description(s) (EXACTLY as you would like it to appear in the PowerPoint presentation; these will be copied verbatim.)

***Descriptions may include names, years and branch of service, accolades, captions, etc.

The deadline to submit pictures is Thursday, November 7th. However, please keep in mind that space is limited. Last year, we filled up available slides two to three weeks before the deadline, so please send your photos in quickly! We look forward to honoring you and your family.

    Thank you,

Tony Karr, Principal, and Ms. Napper, Orchestra Teacher

  • Holmes Parents and Guardians,

As I am continuing to observe existing protocols, policies, and procedures, addressing students who have forgotten their student ID is causing me concern. Please understand that I do not consider wearing a school ID as a small item. In fact, I believe having all individuals (students and staff) in our school wearing an ID is critical to maintain the safety and security of a school.

Because we are six weeks into the school year, students should be well accustomed to this expectation, and should not be "forgetting" the ID at home. Therefore, starting this week, I will be implementing a deterrent for students who are forgetting to wear the student ID at school. On random days selected by administration and campus security, we will assign a Lunch Detention for students who do not have their school ID . Lunch Detention on these specific days will get assigned irregardless of how many times students have not had their ID in the past.

I will begin announcing this change to students this afternoon, and will give them a short grace period before selecting our first Lunch Detention date.

Thank you and please let me know if you have any questions.

    Tony Karr, Principal

  • Dear parents and guardians,

This November, Holmes students will participate in various activities aimed at honoring and recognizing our armed service veterans. We are planning an assembly as part of that work. In order to prepare for the assembly, we are holding student speech rehearsals next week, Tuesday, 10-1-19. Detailed information is attached. If your student is interested in being a speaker at our assembly, they will need to follow the instructions and attend next week's rehearsal.

Also, we are in need of support creating a slide show for the assembly. If you would like to assist, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Amy Blanchard at amy.blanchard@d11.org.

Thank you very much for helping us honor our veterans!

    Tony Karr, Principal
