Mrs. Ziggy Joseph

I am originally from India.  My family moved to the United States in 2012.  My husband works was a software engineer.  I have two daughters; one is a freshman in high school and the other is in third grade.

I completed my master’s degree in Computer Science in India.  While there, I worked as a Technical Support Analyst, bank officer, and computer teacher at Greenwood High International School in Bangalore.  I then moved to the United States and continued my teaching career.

Before settling down in Colorado Springs, I have lived in Albany(New York) and taught technology in Cincinnati for two years.  This is my third year teaching at West Middle School.

I believe that middle school is a time for exploration, a time when students figure out what they are passionate about today, and how that relates to their future.  Currently, I teach the following courses at West Middle School.

Grade 6: Introduction to Technology

This introductory course exposes students to different tools like Google Classroom, Scratch, Publisher, SketchUp Pro, and Pivot Animator.  Students are introduced to the Engineering Design Process and are challenged to build many STEM projects based on their creativity and innovation.

Grade 7: Design and Modeling/Computer Science for innovators and Makers

Design and Modeling:Students discover the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives.  Students are challenged and empowered to use and apply what they have learned throughout the unit to design a therapeutic toy for a child who has cerebral palsy.

Computer Science for Innovators and Makers:Students learn about programming for the physical world by blending hardware design and software development.  Using the learned computer science concepts and skills, students create personally relevant, tangible, and shareable projects.

Grade 8:  Automation and  Robotics/Apps Creator

Automation and Robotics:Students learn the history and impact of automation and robotics as they explore mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems.  Using the VEX Robotics® platform, students apply what they know to design and program traffic lights, robotic arms, and more.

Apps Creator: Students are exposed to computer science as a means of computationally analyzing and developing solutions to authentic problems through mobile app development.  Students convey the positive impact of the application of computer science to other disciplines and to society
