AP Capstone

  • AP Capstone at Doherty

AP Capstone is a very prestigious program and schools are required to complete an application process. Doherty High School is one of only 30 Colorado schools to offer capstone, and the ONLY school in Colorado Springs to actively offer classes.

    Benefits of Capstone

    • Students exercise critical thinking and communication skills
    • Students effectively work in groups to complete tasks
    • Students learn to research deeply, to recognize and acknowledge bias, and to create a formal argument rooted in fact
    • Students present and defend their work to the public
  • "AP Capstone™ is a diploma program from the College Board. It’s based on two year-long AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. (AP Central.)” During AP Seminar, students study bias and perspective; learn the formal structure of an argument; research issues about which they care; and practice valuable communication and presentation skills. In AP Research, students create and implement their own year-long research study after which they document their findings in a formal research paper and defend their work.
