8th grade Counselor
Mr. Johnson is in his 12th year of school counseling all in D-11. Prior to being a school counselor, he was a mental health counselor for six years including four years as counselor for an International company that had him traveling to over 40 countries! Mr. Johnson is passionate about helping people reach their potential and be treated with dignity and respect. He is also passionate about KU Basketball and college basketball, camping and exploring in the mountains.
6th grade Counselor
Ms. Malmquist was born and raised in Montana. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Montana State University and earned her Master’s Degree in School Counseling from University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) in 2019. Ms. Malmquist has the exciting opportunity of being in her second year of counseling here at Russell Middle School. Ms. Malmquist has a passion for supporting and empowering students as they navigate through the ebbs and flows of life. She loves being outside, exploring new places, playing and watching most sports, and spending as much time with her family and friends as possible. Ms. Malmquist is very excited about this upcoming school year!
7th grade Counselor
Ms. Mac has a passion for working with and empowering students. She was born and raised in Wisconsin. After completing her Bachelor’s Degree in German with a double minor in Psychology and English from the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse in 2000, she moved to Colorado. She earned her Master’s Degree in School Counseling from University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) in 2005 and spent thirteen years as a School Counselor at Coronado High School. Ms. Mac enjoys spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys watching and playing all kinds of sports; specifically Packer and Badger football and NCAA basketball - both men and women! Ms. Mac does CrossFit and spends time with her dog Brady and loves spending as much time outside as possible! This is Ms. Mac’s first year at Russell and she is thrilled to be here!
Ms. Legette has worked with children, youth, young adults and families for her entire career since graduating college. She loves working with students and their families. Ms. Legette graduated high school from The Colorado Springs School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in History, a Master’s degree in Social Work with an emphasis on Children, youth and Families, and a Type D Principal License, all from the U. of Denver. Upon graduating from college, Ms. Legette entered the Mental Health field working in both Residential and Day Treatment and Psychiatric hospitals as a Clinician and a Family Therapist. She has been in private practice for many years working with those suffering from abuse and trauma. In her spare time, Ms. Legette loves to travel, cook, shop, and spend time with her 11 nieces and nephews! She also is an avid sports fan! She has been a Social Worker in D-11 for 23 years, 11 of which have been at Russell.
Mrs. Crnich is your friendly Russell neighborhood Registrar and Counseling Staff Assistant. She has been at Russell four years and loves the people and kids here! Russell is like a second family. Mrs. Crnich worked two years prior at the D11 Human Resources building and has a background in retail, office management and customer service. She grew up in Rock Springs, WY and went to Western Wyoming Community College on a full ride scholarship. She has an Associate’s Degree in Business Management. Mrs. Crnich has been married to her husband, Dennis, for 25 years. They have two daughters ages 12 and 13. In addition, they have a golden retriever named Digger and a Holland lop bunny named Tuffy. When not here at Russell, her family keeps her very busy! Some of Mrs. Crnich’s passions include- custom cakes (wedding, birthday, themed), hiking, crafting, movies and cooking.
This is Ms. Terri’s third year at Russell, after spending most of her career in bank accounting and lending. She comes from an Air Force family and has five siblings. When she was young her father was the Vice Commandant of Cadets at the Air Force Academy. She learned to ride jumping horses while they were stationed in England, and showed them in dressage, jumping and cross country for many years.
She has a daughter who is finishing her PhD and becoming a Neuro Forensic Psychologist, and two sons, one who just got married this summer, and her youngest is a senior at Doherty. Russell is dear to her heart as all her kids spent their middle school years here. Children and family are important to her and she spent many years as an advocate and public speaker for Make-A-Wish Foundation, after losing her oldest son at five years old to cancer. Ms. Terri also has an Austrian Shepard named Cody, and works a second job part time as a cashier for Lowes.

Ms. Frederick has been working with exceptional students and families for the past twenty years. After graduating with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University, she began her career in Colorado at the Department of Human Services. Her passion for ensuring that all students have access to quality public education led her to accept a position as a school social worker. During her time in that role, she completed her Educational Specialist degree from the University of Northern Colorado and started working as a school psychologist. In addition, she obtained her Principal’s Licensure from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. Ms. Frederick enjoys hiking, kayaking, road trips, and book clubs.
