The AVID Program (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is designed to increase school wide learning and performance. The mission of AVID focuses on providing access to four-year colleges for students in the academic middle, capable of completing a college preparatory path, so that they achieve success in a rigorous curriculum. AVID schools support students through an academic elective class and supports educators through professional development and team planning.

Students enrolled in the AVID program at Doherty are required to enroll in:

• at least one Honors or Advanced Placement (AP) course
• AVID elective

Doherty AVID students benefit from:

• learning organizational and study skills, and critical thinking from AVID trained teachers

• partipation in enrichment and motivational activities, which include guest speakers and field trips to college campuses
