I am Mrs. Amiot, but, most people call me Mrs. A.. I have been teaching in one form or other since 2003. It was at that time that I left the field of pediatric nursing to teach Middle and High School math and sciences. I stayed in secondary for 5 years then, a move with my Army husband brought me into Elementary School. I worked as a sub and then in a 1st. grade classroom where I could use my neuro experience, sign language, and education experience. In 2009 my family moved to Colorado where I initially worked with English as a Second Language students for 5 years and then spent 6 months in Reading Intervention before getting my second degree and moving into second grade!
My classroom is a Love and Logic structure, where, students are partners in classroom structure. With our AVID framework for organization, advancement, and ownership, learning is a team effort. I use music and sign language for both communication and fun throughout our day. Students are challenged to do their best while taking ownership of their learning and working as a cooperative with myself and their peers.
Thank you for partnering with me in the success of your student.
