Hello and welcome to the Sabin Orchestra family!
This year will certainly be a year to remember and I'm looking forward to getting back to music making with all of the orchestra students and introducing a new group of young musicians to how wonderful the world of string playing can be! This is my 17th year as a music educator and 5th year as orchestra director here at Sabin. I feel extremely privileged and joyful to be able to teach the art of playing string instruments to my amazing middle schoolers every day!
One of my great passions as a musician and teacher is exploring the music of different cultures. As an undergraduate student I was a member of the Arizona State University Pan Devils Steel Drum Band. During the past five years I have been a member of the Colorado Springs Taiko Society, a group that performs traditional Japanese drumming. My most recent endeavor has been to start a mariachi ensemble right here at Sabin so that students could explore the rich traditions of Mexican folk music. While we're unable to offer mariachi this first quarter, I hope to have it back in the schedule as soon as possible. Music throughout the world brings people of all different backgrounds together and enriches their lives. I strive to share that with my students.
Outside of music, I love spending time outdoors running, hiking, and riding bikes with my husband and two cocker spaniels. Whenever I have the opportunity, I like to travel. Some of my favorite adventures have involved exploring caves and volunteering at animal sanctuaries.
