    Hi Scott Family!

My name is Dr. Shawn McVey.  It is my honor to be your Principal at Scott Elementary.  I look forward to serving you as a school and community here in beautiful Colorado Springs!

A little bit about me: I was born in Arkansas and raised in Oregon.  I have a twelve year old son named Reese.  He is very active in sports and outdoor activities.  He lives with his wonderful Momma and super awesome bonus Dad in Oklahoma.

Last summer I fell in love with Colorado, so I cast my net out here to further my career.   My love for the outdoors is unwavering.  I love to mountain bike, road bike, ski, camp, hike, hammock, eat a lot of different foods and people watch!

I truly enjoy meeting people and having a good laugh!  I’ve learned that life is too short to not make the best of it professionally and personally!

On a professional side, I started my career out as a Kindergarten teacher in a tiny little country school in Oklahoma.

I have been an administrator for 15 years in the elementary setting along with teaching early childhood classes for the past 5 years through the University of Arkansas.

Obviously my passion and love of educating our children sets a precedence of working towards a positive future for humanity!  Everyone of us has a role to fulfill and I am in this position of trust and transparency to help meet the needs of the Scott community in any form or fashion that I can.

With much excitement for a fantastic school year,

    Dr. Shawn D. McVey

It is with great enthusiasm to be at Scott Elementary as your assistant principal. This is my fifteenth year in education, all of which have transpired in Colorado Springs School District #11. Graduating from the University of Wyoming in 2007, I began my career as the middle school physical education teacher where I coached and advised many different clubs. I then spent several years at Keller Elementary as a PE teacher and a 4th/ 5th grade teacher. During this time, I received my master’s degree in Educational Leadership from UCCS and another master's degree in Sports Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. After graduating in 2012, I became the District Grant Coordinator for Physical Education and Athletics for D-11. At the completion of the grant, I called Rogers Elementary home for the last 7 years. These years were very formative in my growth as an educator as it provided a solid foundation of quality leadership in both elementary curriculum and decision making.

On a personal note, I enjoy spending time with my daughter. Lillie (my daughter) is a middle schooler at Holmes. Lillie is a gymnast, runner and basketball player, who volunteers and participates in everything. I also have Buddy, who is a mini golden-doodle. I am extremely close with my family. We live a within a mile of each other. I love to travel, work in my yard, hike, go to super hero movies and enjoy anything and everything Disney.

I am honored to accept the position of Interim Assistant Principal at Scott Elementary where I hope to serve and inspire all those who I come in contact with. My goal is to create a welcoming, engaging, collaborative, trusting and transparent environment for the Scott community.
