Dear Scott Elementary Families and Friends,
Welcome to Vera G. Scott Elementary School! Whether you are new to Scott or a returning student and family, we look forward to welcoming you to the Scott Wolf Pack and hope you become active and involved in our school.
At Scott we are extremely proud of our school, with its caring family atmosphere and strong academic programming. We feel certain that you will share in that pride. We are excited to work alongside you and your children as they learn, grow, and succeed academically, socially, and personally. Our expectations are high: we expect the very best for and from our students.
As Scott’s principal, I believe that our school must strive to do whatever it takes to offer an outstanding education to each child, every day. Preparing students for an unknown future is our charge as educators. Our students need to be well-rounded, critical thinkers who are capable of accessing information, evaluating it, forming opinions and making decisions, and collaborating locally, nationally, and globally to conceptualize creative solutions. Harvard Innovation Education Fellow Dr. Tony Wagner says, “In today’s world, it’s no longer how much you know that matters; it’s what you can do with what you know.” Our students will be able to demonstrate that they can do a lot with what they know!
Our #1 goal is to improve student learning. Regardless of where students begin the year, we want to help them in advancing their foundational academic knowledge, skills, and understanding and their ability to solve problems, as well as promote their skills as critical thinkers, collaborators, communicators, and creators.
We are committed to helping all of our Scott Wolves follow the “WOLF Way” (Working and playing safely, Owning their learning, Leading with empathy, and Focusing on success). We work hard to create a school community where every child’s individuality and needs are considered when our instructional practices and enhanced programs are implemented.
Please take some time to review our family guidebook (located online under “Family and CommunityÒDocuments”). Whether you are a new parent or an experienced returning parent to our school community, this booklet will provide you with helpful answers and guidance to our school expectations and procedures.
To help keep you informed about all the good things happening at Scott Elementary School, I encourage you to frequently visit our website and Facebook page. To keep you informed of school wide activities, classroom happenings, PTA events, and reminders from the school office, our school newsletter, the Weekly Wolf Call, is emailed home each Thursday detailing the week to come and lists information and reminders to make sure you don’t miss anything important.
If at any time you have a question about what is occurring in your student’s class, please contact your student’s teacher. Your child’s classroom teacher is always the place to start. If you still have concerns, then please contact me. My door will always be open so students, staff, families, and community members can come forward with questions and concerns as they arise.
I plan to post updates on many different aspects of our students’ day and evening activities. Please follow me on Twitter at @ScottPrincipal and like our school’s official Facebook page.
I am privileged to serve as Scott Elementary School's principal. It is my sincere pleasure to be able to work with Assistant Principal Lefere; our dedicated, expert staff; and every student and parent to make 19-20 one of the best school years ever.
I look forward to continuing to partner with you this school year and many school years to come to best meet the needs of all of our wolves. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at 719.328.6200 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Proud to Back the Pack,
