Mr. Ken Miller

I’m excited to welcome back all our students for the 2019-2020 school year.  We are off to an amazing start! Galileo launched AVID at the closure of last year.  Now, in our second year, we are continuing to build off of last year’s success.  AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. The program places special emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills.  Students may learn how to approach a challenging problem through tutoring, practice their research and writing skills while preparing for discussions about current events or be explicitly taught how to take notes, for example.  Additionally, we will focus on organization and goal setting.  We’d be happy to set up a time to share more about AVID at Galileo School of Math and Science.

Welcome to the start of another fabulous year!  My name is Laura Yslas and I am excited to join the Bulldog team!  This is my first year here at Galileo, and my 14th year in education.  I look forward to working with all the students and families.  I am a Colorado Springs native and went to Galileo when it was East Middle School years ago. I received my bachelor's in education from Regis University and my master's in education leadership at Regis, as well.  My husband, Robert, is a veteran who currently works within the district.  We have three children who all attend a D11 school. We enjoy camping, spending time together, and traveling with our family.

As an educational leader, I offer my dedication and commitment to a quality education for all our students.  Our team is dedicated in creating and maintaining a positive school culture that celebrates and innovates our students; including learning and growth opportunities for the whole child.

Go Bulldogs!
