New Bus Route & Stop Information

Most people are surprised to learn that the State of Colorado does not require school districts to furnish transportation for regular education students.  However, like many districts, D11 provides transportation services in the interest of student safety.  The Board of Education establishes guidelines to determine eligibility that are based primarily on distance from home to school.

Distance to a bus stop is the shortest distance from your residence to a bus stop using safe designated trails, paths and sidewalks.  The maximum distance to a stop for each grade level is listed below.  Bus stops are centralized to accommodate students coming from different directions and designed to service an area where students are eligible for transportation.

Elementary School          1.0 mile

Middle School                  1.5 miles

High School                      2.0 miles

Change of bus stop assignments are not allowed for personal preferences such as, but not limited to, the proximity of the stop to your residence, your ability to see your child at the stop, the fact that the bus goes past your house to get to the stop, the lack of sidewalks, that it is dark outside, or to get off the bus sooner/later.  It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to ensure the safety of your children while walking to and from the bus stop and while waiting at the bus stop.

You cannot request a contracted car in lieu of a school bus.  Transportation will determine which students will be placed with contractors based on operational efficiencies.  This mode of transportation is significantly more expensive but helps get all eligible students to school in a timelier manner.

Parents and/or legal guardians can apply online for Space Available Transportation. The online application is available on the first working day of August.  This service may not be available until after October 1st of each new school year.

Students who are homeless are eligible for services under the McKinney Vento Act.  Contact your child’s school homeless coordinator.  They will discuss your situation and make a determination about transportation eligibility.  More information can be obtained from the District’s Title I office at (719) 520-2419.

Bus drivers are NOT authorized to change a student’s bus stop assignment or bus stop location.  You can submit an online form for consideration.  The form is available HERE after October 1^st of each school year.  Filling out this form does not guarantee that the bus stop will be changed.  Bus stops are centralized to accommodate students coming from different directions.
