NOTIFICATION OF SECURITY INCIDENT
Kirkland & Ellis

On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, District 11 was notified by Kirkland & Ellis that a data breach impacting Colorado Springs School District 11 had occurred.  Kirkland & Ellis provides legal representation to Illuminate Education, Inc.  District 11 utilized a product from Alpine Achievement for student plans and data analytics from 2014-2021.  Alpine Achievement merged with Illuminate Education in July 2018.

The letter from Kirkland & Ellis indicated that files containing potentially protected student information were exposed to unauthorized access between May 27, 2023 and May 31, 2023.   The notification letter indicated the student data affected included student name, academic and behavior information, enrollment information, accommodation information, special education information, student disability code and description, date of birth, student identification number, and student demographic information. No social security numbers or financial information were at risk as a result of this event.

Kirkland & Ellis has been working with leading cybersecurity experts to determine the nature and scope of the cybersecurity issue.  They reported the incident to law enforcement and continue to work with them on the issue.

As a service to your family and your student,  Kirkland & Ellis is offering a complementary year of identity monitoring services and a toll-free telephone assistance line to answer questions.  Impacted families will receive a written notification letter from Kirkland & Ellis with a code to take advantage of this service, as well as additional information on this incident.
