Additional Services

In addition to core Google Workspace tools, students also have access to Google's additional services, which include features that enhance learning opportunities across various subjects. These services are carefully vetted by the district to ensure they meet both educational and privacy standards.

Google Additional Services include apps such as, Google Earth, Google Translate, Google Arts and Culture, Chrome Remote Desktop, and others. To learn more about these additional services and their terms of service, visit D11's List of Google Workspace Additional Services.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Will this opt my student out of all Google services?

No. Your student will still have access to Google Core Services such as Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Search, etc. 

Can I choose which services get turned off?

No. If you opt out, your student will lose access to all additional services.

What happens to my student's educational experience if I opt them out?

Opting out of additional services may limit your child’s ability to engage in certain classroom activities or projects that rely on these tools.

Additionally, please note that District 11 IT staff use Chrome Remote Desktop, which is classified as a Google additional service, to troubleshoot and resolve issues with student Chromebooks. Opting out may restrict IT’s ability to provide timely technical support for your child’s device, potentially resulting in longer repair times.

Additional Services - Terms of Service

Below is a list of Google's additional terms of service, along with a brief description of how each is utilized within the district. For more details, click on the title of each item. Please note that while these resources are accessible to students, they may not necessarily be part of your child's curriculum. If you have any questions about their use, we encourage you to contact your child's teacher.

 

Parental Choice: Opt-In Option

By default, all students are opted in to Google Workspace for Education's core tools. This ensures seamless access to the digital resources necessary for classroom success. However, parents have the option to opt out of their child’s access to additional services if they choose. To opt in to additional services, email Additional.Services@d11.org for current instructions.

Please note that opting out may limit your child’s ability to fully participate in certain classroom activities or assignments that utilize these tools.
