D11 Preschool Locations
Most children attend preschool at their neighborhood elementary school in classes of up to 16 students. Each classroom is staffed by a certified teacher and 2 assistants. Our teachers are highly qualified through the Colorado Department of Education as Early Childhood Special Educators, and many possess a Master’s level college degree.
Preschoolers attend Monday through Thursday in either a morning or afternoon session. Start and end times vary by location. Students will experience a literacy-based circle time, a small instructional group, 60 minutes of student-directed play-based learning, an interactive circle time, a family-style snack time, as well as gross motor time on a playground.
Special Education services are available at each site. Students identified with special needs receive all related special education services in the classroom alongside their neighborhood peers. If you have concerns about your child’s development or need more information regarding Special Education evaluations, please see the information about Child Find.

Buena Vista Montessori Elementary School
Buena Vista Elementary, a Public Montessori School, recognizes the potential of the young child and strives to develop each child through a “prepared environment”. Specially trained Montessori teachers and unique teaching materials are utilized. The teacher prepares the classroom, observes the children, directs the work and offers work according to the readiness and needs of each child.
The curricular areas for each child are: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, and Cultural Studies.
In the Montessori “prepared environment” there is a variety of work, as well as a great deal of movement. In a Preschool classroom, a three year old child may be washing dishes after finishing their snack while a four year old child is composing words and phrases with letters known as the Moveable Alphabet. In the same classroom, five-year-old Kindergarten children may be performing multiplication using beads from the Bead Cabinet.
Each of the materials in a Montessori Preschool classroom is designed to teach a lesson and isolate errors so the child can correct it by themselves. Materials usually belong to a succession of lessons, which, in the beginning, are simple and concrete but progressively become more complex and abstract.

Preschool offered: Morning (M-F or T/W/R) 7:50am-11:05am, or Full Day (M-F) 7:50am-2:50pm
