CTE PROGRAMS CREAT SUCCESSFUL WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT FOR EDUCATION PROGRAMS

This year has marked a huge success in the support of D11 Career and Technical Education programming in teacher education programs. D11 has three programs: Early Childhood Education, Paraprofessional Educator and Primary/Secondary Educator Prep. Each is highly regarded in the region and offers college credit. Most importantly, each meets state requirements in clinical experiences to prepare students for the next step in their career, whether that includes direct employment or continued education, or both.

In brief, through the efforts of our local elementary principals and with the support of our executive directors, our two education instructors, Annie Friesema and Chris Flemr in cooperation with our Work-Based Learning expert Melissa Smith were able to:

Place 28 current and recently graduated students in employment or internships impacting 17 school sites and a private partner. Collectively we have students from almost every traditional and alternative high school campus participating, and ten percent of our students are in Transition programming.

Believe it or not, in order to shift to Covid protocols, we attempted to cohort students more this year which resulted in slightly fewer elementary systems being impacted than in the past.

This year the work-based placements include BY THE NUMBERS:

28 total placements in direct employment or unpaid internships.

2 students who are December 2020 graduates from Transition programming are currently employed as Educational Assistants in two elementary schools.

25 high school students will have completed internships this year.

1 student was already hired as a paid employee.

1 student is completing 2 internships. 1 for Capstone at Coronado and 1 for CTE Paraprofessional Ed.

1 Transition student is completing his Early Childhood Education internship.

14 district elementary sites, 1 middle school, 1 high school, RJWAC day care program and 1 private partner are hosting D11 students.

7 interns in Early Childhood Education, 7 Paraprofessional Educator interns, and 11 Teacher Cadet interns.
