Study Abroad

Study Abroad applications typically open during winter of the current school year. 

To be eligible for Study Abroad, you must:

• Current Sophomore or Junior in a D11 high school
• Successful completion (C or above) of 2 years of the target language.  Priority may be given to students who have successfully completed 3 years of target language.
• Cumulative minimum GPA of 2.5
• Ability to obtain a passport (included in scholarship)
• World Language teacher verbal recommendation
• 1 letter of recommendation from another teacher / coach / supervisor at work, etc.
• Complete application - including essay questions.  Each question has a point value. 
• Clean behavior record in D11 - no major behavior infractions
• Preference given to students who are continuing with language
• Parent / guardian ability to attend mandatory meetings / complete all necessary paperwork.
• Student (parents encouraged to attend too) attends 3 mandatory pre-trip meetings spring semester
• Commitment to follow all rules, learn as much language as possible

District 11 Study Abroad currently supports China, Germany, Mexico, and France. Students must be enrolled in a language course and have completed at least two years prior in order to be eligible to travel to their target country.

District 11 Study Abroad is completely FREE - no costs to families whatsoever.
