READ Act Teacher Training Requirement Information

Amendments to the READ Act (SB19-199 and SB22-004) require that K-3 teachers who provide literacy instruction, 4-12 reading interventionists, elementary school leaders, and  K12 literacy coaches must complete training in the Science of Teaching Reading to meet the requirements of the READ Act.  

READ Act Training Required Groups

Required Staff needing to complete 45 hours includes:
  • K-5 Classroom Teachers
  • K-12 Certified Reading Interventionists
  • K-12 Special Education Teachers
  • K-5 Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Teachers
  • K-5 Gifted and Talented Teachers
  • K-5 Instructional Coaches
Required Administration Staff  needing to complete 20 hours includes:
  • Elementary Principals
  • Elementary Assistant Principals
  • District Special Education Leaders
  • District Literacy Leaders
  • Area Instructional Coaches
  • 6-12 Literacy Instructional Coaches

Completion by August 1, 2025
