Year-Long Patient Care Technician (PCT) Program
Program Overview
The Patient Care Technician Program is a comprehensive, year-long training course designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in healthcare. This program combines classroom instruction, hands-on lab experience, and clinical practice to equip students with the skills needed to provide high-quality patient care in hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare settings.
What You’ll Learn
Throughout the program, students will gain knowledge and practical skills in:
- Basic Nursing Skills
- Phlebotomy (Blood Draws)
- Electrocardiography (EKG)
- Infection Control & Safety
- Patient Mobility & Personal Care
- Medical Terminology
- Vital Signs Monitoring
- CPR & First Aid Certification
Program Duration
Length: School Year – 2 Semesters
Schedule: Weekday classes
Format: In-person classes
Clinical Experience
Students will be offered possible opportunities for internships in the field of healthcare.
Certification & Career Pathways
Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to sit for national certification exams through NHA:
- Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT/A)
- EKG Technician Certification
- Phlebotomy Technician Certification
Graduates can pursue careers in:
- Hospitals
- Long-Term Care Facilities
- Rehabilitation Centers
- Home Health Agencies

Transportation Provided
Transportation is provided by Colorado Springs School District 11 for students enrolled in the Patient Care Technician Program at Palmer High School.
