What is Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS)?
Formerly known as Home Economics, Family & Consumer Sciences is often referred to as the "People-Centered Sciences." This dynamic field focuses on the science and art of living and working well in today’s complex world.

FCS courses help students build practical life skills and prepare for careers in education, human services, hospitality, design, and more.

Course offerings include:

  • Life Management

  • Early Childhood Education

  • Teacher Cadet & Teacher Practicums

  • Fashion & Interior Design

  • Clothing Construction

  • Culinary Essentials, Culinary Arts

  • Catering, and ProStart

  • Hospitality & Tourism Management

The national Career and Technical Student Organization FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is embedded into FCS coursework as an integral, intercurricular leadership experience. FCCLA members compete at the district, state, and national levels.

Many advanced courses offer work-based learning opportunities, college credit, and industry certifications, giving students real-world skills and a strong foundation for the future.
