Degrees and Certifications:
Hola Dear Parents,
My name is Sra. Julissa Quinones, IB Spanish teacher here at Midland International Elementary School. I am very happy to welcome you and your student to my classroom this year! We will learn Spanish while we play, sing, write and talk and develop proficiency in the language.
I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic with my two sisters. My mother and my two sisters are also educators in the Dominican Republic. I live in Colorado Springs with my husband who is a professional chef, and my son who is 11 years old and is a judo champion for the state of Colorado.
In order to complete my higher education, I traveled to South América where I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Universidad de Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano in Bogotá, Colombia. Later, I graduated with a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Universitat de Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain.
I moved with my husband and son to the United States in 2011, and since then I have pursued my dream career in education. I started as a kindergarten volunteer and then as a paraprofessional working very closely with children with special needs, what touches my heart very closely because I have a niece on the autism spectrum.
I obtained my certificate to teach Spanish through University of Colorado in Colorado Springs (UCCS) and I am currently completing a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction at UCCS too.
I have taught first grade as Spanish immersion teacher in District 20, and happily this is my second year here at Midland as the IB Spanish teacher.
I am a happy and dynamic person! I always find myself in the search of knowing the students and families, their traditions, and culture. I invite you to visit my classroom where you could also be a volunteer. Come and travel with us as we learn Spanish vocabulary, cultures, and traditions from the majestic Spanish speaking world.
With love and joy,
