Hi, I'm Joel Kasten.  I am a 1979 graduate of Coronado High School and now I am teaching Construction Technology.  My background in construction/carpentry started while I was still in high school when I was manufacturing waterbeds and custom furniture at a local waterbed store.  I went on to become a commercial carpenter for many local businesses installing suspended ceilings, metal stud framing, and drywall.  I joined the US Navy in 1983 and spent the next 23 years traveling around the world as a Fire Control Technician working on the Tomahawk and Harpoon Weapons Systems, along with getting the opportunity to live in places such as Chicago, IL , Northern and Southern California, Bremerton/Seattle, WA, and 6 1/2 years in Hawaii.  While in the Navy I attended Olympic College in Bremerton, WA where I earned my Associate's Degree in Pre-Engineering and a certificate in Drafting. 

     Upon my retirement from the Navy in 2006, I started my own business as a cabinet maker/handyman.  I also decided to go back to school in 2011 and completed my degree in Electrical Engineering from Colorado Technical University in 2013.  I worked for almost 2 years with an engineering firm out of Denver designing instrumentation, electrical systems, lighting systems, and grounding systems for oil and gas production facilities and well pads.  The company didn't make it through the oil and gas crisis, so because I had never given up my business as a cabinet maker/carpenter, I went back to doing it full time.  I was given the opportunity in the Fall of 2018 year to start the Careers in Construction program here at Coronado and I'm extremely excited to be here. 

     I'm an avid golfer and skier, along with being an assistant football coach here at Coronado High School.
