  • DISTANCE LEARNING

    McAuliffe Families,

This has been a very busy week for us at McAuliffe and I want to assure you that our teachers and staff have been actively engaged in Professional Development, preparing virtual lessons and reaching out to you to check in on how you and your families are doing. We will begin distance learning instruction on Tuesday, April 7th and will continue through Thursday, April 30th, however, D11 is making plans to the end of the school year just in case we need to continue distance learning beyond April 30th.  As we prepare to launch our distance learning instruction, I want to remind you of the following information:

    • Communication: Please continue to keep the lines of communication open between you and your classroom teacher.  If for some reason you have not had contact with your child's teacher, you may call our Main Office between 7:30 am - 3:30 pm and they will help you contact your teacher, (719) 228-0900. Also, if your contact information has changed, please update in our "Q" system so that we can keep in touch: https://www.d11.org/notifications
    • All Mondays: Mondays will be used for staff planning and refining practices to meet specific learning needs.  Students can use Mondays for finalizing any work from the previous week or taking time for themselves to prepare for the rest of the week.
    • Tuesday - Friday: Mornings will be dedicated to learning blocks of time when learning sessions will be offered. Instructional time will be from 9:00 am - 11:30 am.  This does not mean that students must be present or can only work within these learning sessions. All learning opportunities will be offered in a manner that can be accessed at any time (recordings/online posts etc.) as well as hard copy packets that will be mailed to your home, as needed.  Afternoons will be dedicated time blocks for open “office hours” and or other ways for our teachers to connect with students.  Office Hours will be from 12:30 - 3:00 pm.

We understand that distance learning may be a challenge for some of you and we would like to help address some of your questions and concerns.  Our Library Technology Educator, Rachel Weldon, and I will be hosting a parent/guardian Q&A session and workshop to help you become more comfortable with our new online learning environment and tools available in Google Classroom. Since we have such a large school population, we are going to host two separate meetings:

  • The 2020 census count will be how the Federal government determines the amount of money that will be given to our schools for the next ten years. Most of the programs funded from the count are for serving our students living in low-income households and students with disabilities. Historically the ten-year census has undercounted populations in large urban areas like ours, and we would like to work towards making sure our community is properly funded with an accurate count. Everyone counts. Learn more at www.2020Census.gov
