In first grade, we continue learning the skills we began in Kindergarten: songs with more complex melody and rhythm, fingerplays, and musical movement dances and games. Check out the First Grade Songs page to practice with your students at home!

Our unofficial mascot is Herman the Worm. We sing this fun counting song in class about once a week. Have your student sing along at home with the video below!

"The Cat Came Back" is another favorite that we watch and sing occasionally in class. Remember to sing along with the chorus, "The cat came back, the very next day..."

"The Monkey Dance" gets us up and moving. Dance when you hear the chorus, "Everybody do the monkey dance..." and stand still while you answer Mr. Greg's questions!
