"A native of New Jersey, I moved to Colorado Springs while I was attending college, and graduated from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education/Social Studies. I completed my Master of Arts in History degree at UCCS in 2001. I started my teaching career at West Junior High School in D-11 in 1983, where I taught until 1987, when I moved to Coronado High School. I began teaching at General William J. Palmer High School in 1989, and have taught in the International Baccalaureate Program (IB) program at Palmer since 1992. In addition to teaching in the program, I am an assistant examiner for History of the Americas. Starting in 2020, I have been serving as the IB Middle Years  (MYP) coordinator for Palmer.  I help to sponsor SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Acceptance club at school and enjoy the diversity and history of the school. For the 2021-22 school year, I served as the president of the National Council for the Social Studies www.socialstudies.org

I have always been intrigued by the currents of history, especially the history of those that oftentimes do not appear in the pages of most history textbooks. While the past may not always serve as a guide to the future - it does begin to explain how we arrived at the present. History, after all, is the story of us...no matter who the "us" is. Through the years, I have come to appreciate the history of not only the United States, but more importantly, the history of our neighbors - Canada and Mexico. And I have much more to learn!

My two daughters are proud Palmer High School graduates. My eldest daughter graduated from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, is a pre-school teacher at West Elementary; and the youngest from the  University of Colorado - Denver and is a theater arts teacher at the Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy.

While I am not at Palmer, I can be found keeping busy with a number of things. I love white-water rafting, reading, cooking, and being around friends and family. I am a men's lacrosse official and officiate college, high school, and youth lacrosse games. I enjoy hiking, and cycling - and am a big fan of old school rock and roll, rhythm and blues music - especially bands from New Jersey!"

This is my 41st year in education, and my 35th at William J. Palmer High School, and I will retire in May 2024. It has been an honor to have been a teacher at the best high school in Colorado Springs!
