Colorado Springs School District 11 is self-insured and has a partnership with Colorado Public Education Health Plan (formally known as BEST Health Plan) for medical coverage.  The Medical Plan is offered through an Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) for medical and inpatient Mental Health/Substance Abuse services to bring patients and selected health care providers together in an effort to reduce the effect of rising health care costs. Colorado Public Education Health Plan contracts with Marpai to provide claims processing, case management and customer service for our employees and covered members.

HOW DOES THE HEALTH PLAN WORK?

If you are a new enrollee of the medical plan on or after 1/1/21, you will automatically be enrolled in the Platinum Plan for the plan year from 7/1/2022 through 6/30/2023. During this plan year, you will be given the opportunity to participate in the Health Promotion Program. If you and your covered spouse (if applicable) successfully complete the Health Promotion Program, you will automatically be enrolled in the Platinum Plan for next plan year (7/1/2023-6/30/2024). If you do not successfully complete the Health Promotion Program, you will automatically be enrolled in the Base Plan for next plan year (7/1/2023-6/30/2024).  For more information on the Health Promotion Program, please visit the Health Promotion Program tab on the Benefits webpage.

MAKING ENROLLMENT CHANGES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
In most cases, your benefit elections will remain in effect for the entire plan year (July 1-June 30). During each open enrollment period, you will have the opportunity to review your benefit selections and make changes for the coming year.

Certain coverage allows limited changes to elections during the year. These benefits include the medical, dental and vision plans. Under these benefits, you may only make changes to your elections during the year if you have a change in family status. Family status changes include:

    • Marriage, divorce, or legal separation
    • Gain or loss of an eligible dependent for reasons such as birth, adoption, court order, disability, death, marriage, or reaching the dependent age limit
    • Changes in your spouse's employment affecting benefit eligibility
    • Changes in your spouse's benefit coverage with another employer that affects benefit eligibility

The change to your benefit elections must be consistent with the change in family status. For example, if you gain a new dependent due to birth, you may change your benefit selections to add that dependent.

You have 31 days from the date of a family status change to turn in a completed enrollment change form and supporting documentation to Employee Benefits; otherwise, you must wait until the next open enrollment period to make a change to your election changes. In most cases, your election will become effective on the date of your family status change.
