UNIVERSAL SCREENING FOR GIFTED POTENTIAL
-
The purpose of universal screening is to establish a pool of students who may qualify for gifted services. A group-administered aptitude assessment, the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT 7), is administered to all second grade students in the fall of each school year. Second grade students who enroll after the group administration are given the same assessment individually during their second grade year. Results are shared with classroom teachers and are available to parent(s)/guardian(s). Parent(s)/guardian(s) may opt his/her child out of this screen by contacting the classroom or gifted resource teacher. Students who scores in the 95th percentile or above will be recommended for a Gifted Review and parents will be contacted by the GRT.
