Rheannon McDonald
9th and 10th Grade Educator, Science and Mathematics (STEM)
719-726-8708
Rheannon McDonald grew up in the Silicon Valley area of California where she began her career in the video game industry at Electronic Arts, Inc, working with The Sims, DICE, EA Sports, and EA Games teams. After spending a year in Kuwait, she and her husband returned to Colorado Springs where she completed her degree in Veterinary Technology. Ms. McDonald worked with wildlife at the Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo and, more extensively, with the exotic animals of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, collecting and evaluating patient samples, taking radiographs, and running anesthesia. In her 10 years of experience in Veterinary Technology, she saw many new veterinary students approach subjects with fear and uncertainty. She decided to return to school to earn her teaching credentials, with a goal of teaching STEM subjects in a way that built up confidence and gave young people agency in working with these subjects, no matter where their careers would take them. Ms. McDonald graduated from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 2021 with a degree in Biology (Secondary Education) and holds endorsements in secondary science and middle school mathematics. Her goals at Spark are to use her experiences in the video game and veterinary medical fields to help students to connect to what they are learning through solid technology integration and connection of learning to the real-world use of what students see in their classes.
