I am a physical education teacher because I believe that physical education (P.E.) is a vital component to quality education. I believe that a gymnasium is just as vital of a place to learn as a traditional classroom. P.E. allows students to learn more about health, wellness and physical fitness in ways a traditional classroom can’t.
While some schools may separate and isolate subjects, I take joy in including them into my classes. By blending various subjects in my class, Students will also learn elements of Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Human Anatomy, Biomechanics, Physiology and even Geography. This allows students to learn in a capacity that requires them to be in physical motion by using their bodies.
My class encourages them to work in groups thus creating an atmosphere that values teamwork. As a teacher, I inform my students each day that there will be some activities may be challenging or even foreign to them. By giving encouragement, I create an atmosphere that values dedication. I also teach my students that it’s not about being perfect or becoming the best in their class. I teach that it’s about being the very best they can be and never giving up. This creates an atmosphere that values commitment.
The ultimate goal is to allow all students who are audio, visual or kinesthetic learners the chance to learn at an optimal level. My vision to that each student would rather seek daily improvement rather than perfection. That each student realizes their mistakes, learn from them and leave the gymnasium better than they were entering.
