RK (Recorder Karate) - Level One
First level is all about sound, tonguing and reading your notes. LEFT hand covers the top three holes and the thumb covers the back hole. Your little finger on your LEFT hand just hangs out, does nothing but balance your hands. Fat, Flat Fingers to cover the holes.
Sound - good sound happens when you blow softly, like you are making a candle flame dance but not blow out. Think of warm soft air. If you get squeaks or poor sounds, check that your holes are totally covered and you are blowing softly.
Tonguing is how you make each note sound clearly - practice by putting your pointer finger to your lips, now say to, to, to. Notice what your tongue is doing. Do it again with only air, no sound, and you are tonguing. Play one note on your recorder and practice tonguing.

RK - Level two
Same good playing directions as level one, but reading your notes is even more important. Hold the half notes longer than the quarter notes. Read that the B note is on the third line, the A is on the second space and the G is on the second line.
-
RK - Level three
Keep the beat, follow the correct rhythm. Tonguing, good sound, reading your notes and following the rhythm are all important.
-
RK - Level four
Two hands! Your RIGHT hand is added to this song. Your RIGHT thum should just help balance on the back while your fingers cover the 4 (6) holes on the front. You have to blow even softer and really use Fat Flat Fingers the more holes you have to cover. Have fun!! Tonguing is most important on repeated notes!
-
RK - Level six
Counting your rhythm is super important on this song, and playing it may cause others to sing along!
