As many of you already know, the Board of Education met on Wednesday evening and it has been determined that D11 will be starting the school year on August 24th with all students engaged in our remote learning platform, Inspire @ Henry Online. By default, all students will be automatically enrolled in the Inspire Online program for the first quarter.
Our staff returns to work next week and we will be working diligently over the next two weeks to develop what online learning will look like at Henry in order to ensure engaging and rigorous instruction. Students will be expected to complete 4 ½ hours a day of online work and unlike the spring, daily online attendance will be required and students will be graded on daily assignments.
Daily Schedule - Our daily online schedule will include instruction in the following areas:
o Social Studies
o Specials (Art, Music, PE)
o Social/Emotional Learning and Capturing Kids Hearts
Hybrid Model - Understandably, we have student populations who will still need in-person services and supports that are not feasible to accomplish in an all remote learning environment, specifically students receiving Special Education support, English Language Learners, READ Act supported students, and Preschool students (who, under current guidance, are classified as essential childcare). These areas are where some hybrid options will be built into schedules at the individual school level. We will be working and coordinating with our District Facilitators in these areas to develop a plan for these populations. At most, we will have these students in our building once or twice a week for needed supports.
Back to School Night - All events will be virtual. We will be working to develop plans for what this will look like and will send out to you as soon as this is finalized.
Device Deployment – We are developing a plan to deploy devices to every one of our students at Henry the week before school begins. Once our plan is developed, we will also hand out Yearbooks and any needed school supplies and/or resources to ensure students have what they need at home.
Other Areas – We also have other teams in our District working on areas to support our students in an online learning environment. Information will be communicated once plans are in place. Some of these services include:
o Breakfast/Lunch Service
o Transportation for hybrid learners
o Office Hours: 8:00 am – 3:30 pm
o Due to current guidance, no visitors are allowed into the building at this time

Ensuring the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. We will continue to be flexible with our planning and be ready to adapt as necessary. The desire of the District’s Board of Education and leadership teams is to return to in-person learning safely as possible and as soon as possible.

With many of our students now returning to learn remotely at the beginning of this school year, and with limited access to buildings for special populations of students, we are happy to announce D11 will be providing a device for all students. Thanks to CARES Act stimulus funding, each student in District 11 will be provided a device for their use both at home and at school. We are excited to be able to provide this opportunity to our students and families, and hope it alleviates some of the uncertainty you may have as we prepare for remote learning.
Both school and district staff are working hard to finalize all of the plans of this project, and details will be communicated by your school as soon as possible. Please watch for announcements via email, the D11 app, text, and on your school’s website for specifics. Schools will begin communicating later next week the school specific deployment dates. Please give them time to put together the communication and details necessary to make this smooth for you and your students. The goal will be to begin deployments the week of August 17. Teachers and staff are working right now to create great learning experiences for all students as we begin the new year.
