Degrees and Certifications:
"Creativity takes courage"
My name is Kelly Berry and I am entering into my 11th year of teaching. My family and I just moved to Colorado Springs this summer and we are thrilled to be here in the fresh mountain air! However, I am a southerner to my core as I grew up in Valdosta, GA, and went on to receive my Bachelor's of Science in Early Childhood Education at Valdosta State University. Gooo Blazers! In the Fall of 2011, I became certified to teach art education for K-12th grades. I am married and have three little boys.
I am passionate about my job as an art educator. I love to help kids step into a world of creativity that they never knew existed before. I am also passionate about kids and caring for them and letting them know that I think they are important. Below I am sharing with you the ending portion of my 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year reflection paper that I wrote about the message that I would share with teachers all over the world if given the opportunity.
We have a great opportunity to be something very special in the life of a child. We have the ability to step into the hard circumstances of life and lead our students to a place that they could have never dreamed of before. As Rita Pierson said in her closing of her now famous TED Talk, “Is this job tough? You betcha. Oh God, you betcha. But it is not impossible. We can do this. We're educators. We're born to make a difference.” I encourage and challenge us all to care deeply about the individuals lives that we come in contact with every day. Together we can make a difference.
