Teaching Background: I have been teaching for 26+ years. I have taught full-time Physical Education at Lewis Palmer Middle School, Emerson Edison Junior Academy, and for the last 16+ years I have been the Physical Education teacher at Jackson Elementary. Out of all the schools I have taught for, Jackson is by far my favorite! I look forward to teaching all my little pumpkinheads every day, and I really miss them when I am not at school. I have coached several different sports throughout my career, but my love is teaching Physical Education.
My General Teaching Philosophy: Physical Education to me is not just about skill development and learning new sports. It is about teaching young minds whole life concepts like; communication, cooperation, trust, safety, fun, and critical thinking skills etc. While I appreciate the benefits of sports, my primary concern is to give my students a very well-rounded education, so they can decide for themselves how they want continue Physical Education for the rest of their lives. I believe it mostly starts with challenging their young minds and bodies and having as much fun as possible in the process! I am a firm believer that when we do activities/exercises/sports/games etc. we enjoy and have fun with, we are more likely to continue to do them as we age. With that said, this site is about providing a LARGE selection of activities for students to explore, learn, laugh, play etc. My hope is that students see this site less as exercise and skill development (boring to many) and more about an opportunity to play, laugh, explore, try new things, use thier immagination etc.
More Personal Information: I have a daughter who is currently attending the same college I attended (Same college with a new name: Western Colorado University) and she is also working toward becoming a Physical Education teacher. She is currently a Senior and has received all A's and 1 B. I am extremely proud of her, and she totally owns my heart. On my non-working time I love to, fish, play video games, garden, backpack, paddleboard, and I currently have 14 chickens etc. I have lived in Colorado Springs since 1982, and went to Falcon Middle and High School.
My 3 Favorite True Life Stories (I love stories):
1) I once jumped off the Brisbane Bridge in Australia and Bruised my BUM!
2) I once flipped my truck several times down Monarch Pass, and walked away from the accident without a single scratch.
3) I once caught 4 rainbow trout, with the same line, at the same exact time.
