Our free English Language Classes (ESL) are focused on helping non-native, English speaking adults improve their reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension skills. Our goal is to help improve their workplace communication skills, get a new job, prepare to take job training or college classes, and become more active in the community. All classes are free, and some District 11 families may qualify for child services.
We currently serve students from five different continents and 29 countries. With so many different languages spoken, we use English language immersion techniques, which teach life and work skills that help our students gain confidence and use their English skills in their everyday lives.
For non-native English speakers who have lived in the United States for many years and speak and understand English well, we offer reading and writing courses in our Adult Basic Education Program.
Classes are open to all community members 17+. We also offer a variety of services in addition to our adult ESL classes.
Refugee Services: AFE offers English Language, Language Arts and Math classes to students referred by Lutheran Refugee Services for up to 5 years after entering the United States. Referred students must attend a registration and inform us that they are registered with LRS.
