ACADEMIC MASTER PLAN

Colorado Springs School District 11 believes every student should have the opportunity to discover their passions on their academic journey. The District spent the last year engaging students, parents, teachers, and the business community to learn about our community’s priorities for District 11’s academic offerings. Five priorities were identified during this process:

  • Quality Neighborhood Schools
  • Distinctive Pathway Schools and Programming
  • Aligned Programming Pathways
  • Expanded College and Career Options
  • Equitable Access to Learning Opportunities, Experiences, and Outcomes

The Academic Master Plan is designed to put families and students in the driver’s seat of their educational journey. Think of it as a “choose your own adventure story” where students can choose to lead their academic journey on one of several “academic pathways,” as they learn their interests and what inspires them. These academic pathways include:

Beginning in elementary school, students can explore the various pathways to discover their interests and passions. As they grow through their academic journey, students have the option to choice into their favorite pathway and engage in curriculum and classes that align with their interests. These academic pathways will be available to every student in the District, regardless of where they live. To deliver on that promise, District 11 is in the process of enhancing its transportation options to ensure that students across the District have access to the pathways and programs that inspire them to become lifelong learners.

In addition to the new academic pathways, District 11 is expanding opportunities for students to earn college credit while in high school. During the 2019-20 school year, D11 students earned over 12,000 credits through the District’s expanded college options programming.

For families who enjoy on-line learning, D11 has launched Spark Online Academy. Beginning in August 2021, this fully on-line school will provide students with the structure, teachers, support, and rigorous academic curriculum they would also experience in a traditional classroom.

Also new for the 2021-22 school year, District 11 is pleased to announce our new Spanish/English Dual Language Immersion Program (DLIP) at Rogers Elementary School!   This program will be an additional program to Rogers Elementary.  Our DLI program will add a grade level each subsequent year to complete a full Dual Language experience for our students, starting this year with kindergarten and first grades. The Dual Language Immersion Program is an academic program that enhances the development of content in two languages - English and Spanish, as well as literacy in both languages, so that students will graduate ready for college, career, and life in a globally changing world.

District 11’s Academic Masterplan is designed to optimize choice and put families fully in control of their student’s academic journey. Whether your student chooses one of the District’s new pathways, opts into an online curriculum through Spark Online Academy, or is set on graduating high school with their Associate’s Degree already in hand, D11 has a place for your child to thrive and grow into a lifelong learner.
