District 11 implementation video - August 2022
What is Duo two-factor authentication?
Technology Services Division is protecting you and District 11 against cybersecurity threats and phishing attacks by implementing Duo Mobile Security. Duo is a two-factor authentication, 2FA, solution that makes it harder for malicious individuals to bait users into sharing username and passwords. Duo provides a second layer of security to Colorado Springs School District 11 logins to vulnerable systems by requiring extra information or a physical device to log in. It is likely that you currently use two-factor authentication with other personal systems such as online banking, insurance, iTunes and more.

Is Duo required?
Yes, Duo is required for all D11 employees. Until Duo enrollment is complete, you will not be able to access D11 systems off-site, such as Microsoft and Google.
What are phishing attacks?
Phishing is an attack that attempts to steal personal information such as password credentials by pretending to be from a legitimate source. Cybercriminals typically pretend to be reputable people, companies, friends in a fake message.
Why do we need two-factor authentication?
Providing two-factor authentication security is required for continued cyber-security insurance coverage. Login credentials are more valuable than ever, and are increasingly easy to compromise. Most breaches today involve compromised usernames and passwords. Two-factor authentication enhances the security of your account by using a secondary device to verify your identity. This prevents anyone but you from accessing your account, even if they know your password.
How will Duo change my login experience?
Duo only triggers when you are NOT in a D11 building and you are logging in to systems such as your district email, OneDrive, Teams, Google suite, when accessing any technology systems via VPN. Duo does not replace or require you to change your username and password. Think of Duo as a layer of security added to your pre-existing login method.
With Duo Push, you'll be alerted right away on your device or key FOB if someone is trying to log in as you.
