Wilson “Make A Difference Day” Beautification Project Overview

The PTG has been busy planning for our proposed Beautification Project.  Wilson Elementary is almost 40 years old and still has the original landscape design.  It is in desperate need of an updated appearance.  Our vision for the project is that we are hoping to develop a sense of pride for the students resulting in the desire to excel in academics and boost the morale of the students and staff at Wilson.  This will be a great opportunity for our students to see the community draw closer and offer support to one another.

The Beautification Project will be carried out in II Phases.  Phase I will consist of adding an awning to the front walkway, playground clean-up and improvements, placing benches and trash cans around the school, adding a bike rack for the students convenience, and incorporating xeriscaped islands in the front and side yard.  Phase II will be the construction of a new parking area.  For improved safety conditions for the students and parents taking and picking up the children, it will become less hectic with the addition of a parking area.  Parents will no longer have to park along the streets of the school.

The work for Phase I will be completed on Make A Difference Day: October 27, 2007.  We are requesting 50-75 parent and community volunteers to come participate in helping this beautification project be successful for the current and future staff, students, and families who attend Wilson Elementary as well as the surrounding neighbors.  Phase II will be carried out when PTG has raised and received sufficient funds to pay for the project.

To raise money for our projects, PTG has scheduled 2 fundraisers for this 06-07 school year, in addition to future fundraisers next 07-08 school year.  In late February, early March, we will be having a candy count with a prize raffle.  In late April, we will have a Pie in the Face contest.  The Coin Drive in November was a big success earning $738.  Along with the fundraisers, PTG will be sending out letters to the community requesting companies to contribute materials and donations.  Phase I estimated material costs are $28,000.  Phase II estimated costs are $135,000.  As you can see, there is a large amount of money needed for these projects but with the support of a caring community and eager parents, this project can be completed!
