RE:                   USAFA – Center for Character Development

The cadets at the Air Force Academy are again interested in doing community service projects.  The goal of the program is two fold: to develop a "volunteer ethic" within future generations of Air Force officers modeled after the Air Force's core value of Service Before Self, and allow the Air Force Academy to play a key role in serving the community which surrounds it. In line with these goals, each year the Air Force Academy makes contact with volunteer and service organizations throughout the community to ask for their assistance in meeting these objectives by utilizing cadets in volunteer activities and functions that are sponsored by their organizations.

They are primarily available Friday evenings, Saturdays during the day and evenings, and Sundays until 5:00 PM. Times during the school day and weekday evenings are nearly impossible and will require special arrangements.

Last year 154 cadets supported projects at Bristol Elementary School, Chipeta Elementary School, Midland Elementary School, Trailblazer Elementary School, and Wilson Elementary School contributing 615 hours.

Please complete the attached form and return it to me. I will work with the Air Force Academy to get your project assigned to a group of cadets. A cadet will call your designated contact to notify you that your activity is selected. If you do not hear, by the deadline you state on your request form, please contact me so I can follow up with the Academy. Please recognize that because of the cadet's many academic, athletic, and military training requirements, they are sometimes not available to support requested events.

After your event, please email me at dekeklel@d11.org with the number of cadets who volunteered and the number of hours they contributed.
