COLORADO SPRINGS SCHOOL DISTRICT ELEVEN Dr. Terry N. Bishop, Superintendent Volunteer Services THE AMAZING BRAINCOLORADO COLLEGE DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY PURPOSE To introduce local elementary school children to basic neuroscience by providing a hands-on-experience with brain tissue. DESCRIPTION The material presented will vary according to the age of the students. All groups will have the chance to see and touch a human brain. Presentations may include: · a discussion of motor coordination · differences between brains of human and non-human animals · differences between human brains · the effect of drugs · how we see · how we hear · how the brain changes with age · how do nerve cells communicate with each other · what is pain · identification of brain sites involved in a particular behavior · measure of reaction times Presenters often consult with the teacher on program design. AUDIENCE Grades 1-5 SIZE 30 student maximum preferred AVAILABLE LIMITED ENGAGEMENT - October 08 and October 15Only 16 Presentation Available -(Palmer Cluster Area Schools Only)(deadline for requests September 12, 2008NOTE This program is presented by Colorado College students currentlyenrolled in a Neuroscience course.
