National School Bus Safety Week Program

The D-11 Transportation Department will be conducting School Bus Safety Classes for students in grades K-3.  Classes will consist of a safety video, puppet show or Buster the Bus, emergency evacuation practice, and safe loading and unloading procedures. Classes can be scheduled at your school.

If you would like to schedule a class with us please contact Michelle Mockerman, Transportation Safety, Training and Certification Officer at 520-2949 or e-mail mockem@dll.org. Please schedule your class A.S.A.P., as space is limited. We are only scheduling classes October 10 thru October 21, 9:30am to 1:00pm.

 In conjunction with the National School Bus Safety Week, we will also be starting our School Bus Safety Poster Contest. This year the theme is "Be Aware! Cross with Care".  Students may draw posters from October 10, 2005 through April 7, 2006. The  THREE  winning posters from each class, in the following divisions (Grades K-2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6-7, Special Education, and Computer Designed (CAD) - an experimental division), should be sent to Transportation, at 5240 Geiger Blvd, (ATT. Sue Dean).   Please submit your winning posters no later than April 7, 2006. 

Winning Posters must fit the following guidelines:

  • 12" x 18" only ( a real must )

  • Leave a one inch blank (uncolored) strip along the bottom of poster

  • Feature the THEME name predominately on the front of the poster

  • Glue a NSBSW entry blank to the lower left-hand corner on the back

  • Information must be clearly printed on entry blank ( this is very important )

  • Be hand drawn by the student only (except for CAD)

  • All lettering must be freehand (no stencils)

  • Be on heavy paper, tag or poster board (may be mounted on poster board)

  • Have at least part of a yellow school bus on it

  • No copyrighted characters on it
