PTA Board Positions
Below is a list of board positions and a brief description of each. Click here to see a list of current board members, and open positions. Remember that co-chairs are encouraged, so, even if a chairperson is already listed, please feel free to ask how you can assist.
Officers
President Oversees the board; facilitates monthly meetings, delegates tasks, represents the PTA at school functions, and serves as main contact with the school principal.
1st Vice President With the intention of moving up to the position of President after one or two terms, the 1st Vice President assists the President as needed, volunteers for special projects as able, and fills in if the President is unable to attend a meeting or function.
2nd Vice President According to our bylaws, this position is held by the school principal.
Secretary Takes notes at each meeting; prepares and distributes minutes. Also works with the Trailblazer Webmaster to make sure that the Trailblazer Website is accurate and contains current information with respect to PTA.
Treasurer Handles all aspects of the PTA finances: budget, deposits, check disbursement, taxes, and class gift program.
Committee Chairs
Ways & Means Plans and executes all fundraising activities including Catalog Sales, Elf Shelf, Tool Box Kits (school supplies) and the Spring fundraiser. This is a good position for co-chairs to share the work.
Membership Publicizes and tracks PTA Membership. Assembles information and creates layout for Membership Directory.
Newletter Compiles articles written by officers and committee chairs for monthly PTA newsletter. Some writing and graphic design skills required; software provided.
Hospitality Plans and coordinates many of the social functions including teacher appreciation luncheons, Halloween Hop, and Dads Breakfast/Lunch.
Enrichment Coordinator (formerly known as ALPs) Schedules, publicizes, and handles registration for after-school enrichment activities. Students typically pay a fee to attend these fun and educational classes.
Volunteer Hours Tracks volunteer hours and records them in the VMS system.
Health & Safety Plans and coordinates various activities related to student health, wellness and safety.
Publicity Creates posters and flyers, and writes newsletter and web articles, to promote PTA events and programs.
Historian Creates an annual scrapbook using photos and other items collected throughout the year.
Parks Helps with landscaping to keep school grounds clean and green.
Board of Arts Serves as liaison between school and community through the arts (e.g. PAYO). Coordinates parent volunteers for classroom art education (Art Smart materials and lesson plans provided).
Welcome Reaches out to parents, with emphasis on those new to Trailblazer, to involve them in Trailblazer activities and gather their areas of concern and interest. This committee typically participates at Kindergarten Registration, oversees the Ice Cream Social and Back to School Night events, and seeds ideas for general PTA meeting topics.
Program / Event Coordinators
Kidpower Publicizes and coordinates with KidPower organization that conducts a two-session class on safety for kids; purchases and delivers refreshments for this class. This is a typically one-time event that takes place in January or February.
Redeemables Collects and periodically submits Box Top coupons collected by parents and students; the PTA earns about $800 each year through this program. Collects pull tabs from soda and other cans. Decides what other redeemable items will be collected and coordinates their collection.
School Apparel Works with clothing manufacturer to design, publicize and coordinate the annual school apparel program.
Italian Dinner Night Plans and coordinates the annual PTA Membership Meeting / Italian Dinner Night (held the third or fourth week in January).
Spring Event Plans and coordinates a fun event (e.g. a school carnival) held during the spring.
