The Class Gifts program is designed to enhance the classroom learning experience of all Trailblazer students, by offering supplementary funds to teachers. Class Gifts funds may be spent on materials for centers, books, videos, or other items for students to directly use in the classrooms, or on curricula or seminars/workshops/conferences so that teachers can improve their classroom programs.
The Class Gifts program is funded and administered by the Trailblazer PTA. Requests for disbursement of Class Gifts funds should be directed to the PTA Treasurer. The teacher/staff can either pay for the items themselves and get reimbursed (receipt required) or ask that the PTA send in a check (invoice required).
Funds are allocated by grade level or department, rather than to individual teachers. Consequently, it is suggested that all Class Gifts purchases first be discussed with and approved by all teachers at that grade level/department. Before PTA will cut any checks for Class gift funds, the expenditure needs to be approved by the principal.
It is not expected that the Class Gifts program will provide sufficient funding for each teacher to attend a seminar/conference each school year. As a department, teachers must decide what the best use(s) of their grade-level funds are, and, if a workshop is chosen, then they must decide which teacher should attend the workshop this particular school year. Teachers that do attend seminars are expected to share the knowledge they gain with other Trailblazer teachers so that the students of those teachers may benefit as well.
The Class Gifts program is designed to cover relatively small expenses. (If teachers feel that a “big ticket item” is needed for their classroom, they should approach the PTA for this item separately.) To encourage teachers to plan ahead and spend these class gifts funds promptly rather than to save them, this is a “use it or lose it” program; unspent funds do not accrue across school years. Any unused Class Gifts funds remaining on June 1st will be returned to the general Trailblazer PTA budget.
