Dear Parents,

The Pikes Peak Literacy Strategies Project was designed to help those who have not studied the teaching of reading find strategies to help their students.  It is divided into the elements of reading:

Phonological Awareness (hearing phonemes or the sounds that make words)/Phonics (the sound symbol relationship=t says /t/);
Vocabulary (knowing what words mean);
Fluency (reading with proper speed, inflection and expression); and
Comprehension (understanding the text at deep levels). 

If your student needs help in one area, you can look up the section, go to the parent connection and find suggestions.  The document explains a lot about each area.  Feel free to get information and suggestions from any part of the document.  If you have questions, ask teachers or your LRT (328-6336).
