PHYSICAL EDUCATION (K-2) STANDARD I Students demonstrate skills in a variety of physical activities and sports. BENCHMARK A: STUDENTS DEMONSTRATE ABILITY IN A VARIETY OF DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE MOVEMENT SKILLS. Indicators: Students Recognize and demonstrate selected skills and concepts when asked by a teacher. Exhibit concepts of space and body, and a variety of movement skills during practice and while performing the activity. Demonstrate progress toward the mature form of manipulative, locomotor and non-locomotor skills. BENCHMARK B: APPLY INDIVIDUAL SKILLS IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF RULES, STRATEGIES, AND APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR. Indicators: Students: Understand the importance of following class rules for games and activities. Demonstrate the ability to follow the proper protocol for skill and activity development. Show respect for classmates, rules and equipment. STANDARD II Students demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness. BENCHMARK A: DEFINE COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS. Indicators: Students: Identify the behavioral signs of moderate physical activity (e.g., heart beating fast/slow, breathing rapid/slow, sweating, feelings associated with "effort"). BENCHMARK B: CREATE AND PARTICIPATE IN A PERSONAL FITNESS PROGRAM. Indicators: Students: Meet the health fitness standard as defined by a recognized fitness test. Record what they do in their free time and recess for a week and indicate what their fitness activities require. STANDARD III

BENCHMARK A: IDENTIFY AND DESCRIBE THE BENEFITS, RISKS AND SAFETY FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH REGULAR PARTICIPATION IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITY.

Sustain physical activity by moving each joint through a full range of motion.
Support their own body weight while hanging or climbing.
Participate in moderate physical activity for more than ten minutes.
Demonstrate safe and appropriate use of equipment while participating in a variety of physical activities.
STANDARD IV
Students demonstrate competency in team, dual and individual sports.
BENCHMARK A: APPLY APPROPRIATE INTERPERSONAL AND INTRAPERSONAL SKILLS NECESSARY FOR COMPETITIONS.

Know the classroom/playground rules and the consequences for behavior.
Transfer rules of the gym to the playground.
Work in a group setting without interfering with others.

BENCHMARK A: DEMONSTRATE ABILITY IN A VARIETY OF DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE MOVEMENT SKILLS.
Indicators:
Students:
Learn patterns in the fundamental manipulative skills of
throwing, catching, kicking, trapping, rolling, dribbling,
striking and volleying.
Learn even rhythm locomotor movement and uneven
locomotor movements (e.g., walk, run, leap, hop, jump; or skip, slide and gallop).
Learn and demonstrate non-locomotor movements (e.g.,
bending, twisting, stretching, pushing and pulling
movements).
Use body control and weight transfer during various movements (e.g., participating in climbing, tumbling and gymnastics).
BENCHMARK B: APPLY INDIVIDUAL SKILLS OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF RULES, STRATEGIES, AND APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR.
