May in...Mrs. Burton’s Preschool Class:
During
April the preschoolers learned about dinosaurs. They were young
paleontologists as they dug in the sand for bones, they created fossils
at the art table and they sang a song that taught them how dinosaurs
protected themselves with spines, claws, teeth or wings.
The next week
the room was transformed to “Where The Wild Things Are.” It was fun
making wild thing masks and noisy instruments and then having our own
“wild rumpu.” Each child brought in something that they thought a wild
thing might eat and we ended the week with a “wild things buffet.” We
talked about community helpers for 2 weeks. Our visit to the fire
department was wonderful. We saw a fire truck and an ambulance. The
children were surprised to discover that the fire fighters sleep, eat
and watch TV at the station. For some reason, the fact that they had 2
refrigerators in their kitchen was talked about for days afterwards. The
children had a chance to paint a big cardboard fire truck that was
large enough to fit 3 children inside. For sharing day, the children
brought in something that someone uses in their job. Parents were
creative helping their children find things to bring in. The highlight
of the last week in April was a family field trip to Norris-Penrose
Event center to visit
Mrs. Burton’s horse, Rousseau. The children got to
pet him and feed him carrots, apples, peppermint candy and sugar. They
got to go inside his stall and see where he gets a shower. Before going
home, each child had a pony ride on Rousseau’s little horse friends
named Candy and Toot.
Preschool Needs:
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Guest Passes
If
your family has any unused guest passes for the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo,
the preschool would love to have them. They are having a family field
trip to the zoo on Thursday, May 21 and a free pass would help out some
families. Please send the passes to the office and mark them “Preschool”
or bring them down to the preschool room K2.
Thank you in advance.
