Welcome:
Introductions
were made and everyone was welcomed to the meeting.
Landscaping:
Tim Seibert presented the following information regarding obtaining the swings for the playground: The swings will cost $2,185 which includes shipping costs as well as $358 for installation. The swings will arrive 3-4 weeks after the order is placed. There will be 6 eight-foot swings: one set of 2 swings and one set of 4 swings. The fall zone under the swings must be 6” of gravel covered by 12” of wood chips. Shelly Jensen and Ray Kent will look into whether or not D-11 will provide free wood chips.
Considerable site preparation must take place before the swings can be installed: a portion of the current playground equipment must be removed (i.e., the “zip line”); sections of the stone wall need to me moved; the bike rack needs to be relocated; excavation and fill are needed to bring the area under the swing to grade; and a barrier must be installed around the chain link fence to prevent the wood chips from migrating on to the sidewalk.
Groniger Concrete has provided a proposal to do the site preparation work for $3600. If Steele can provide workers, then the price can be reduced by $10 per man hour. The PTA Dad’s Group will be contacted to request helpers.
Debby Van Orden presented information about a recycled tire program for the playground. A grant is available to apply for reimbursement for 75% of the cost of the product. Debby will obtain price quotes for each section of the playground.
Motions were put forth for Debby Van Orden and Shelly Jensen to pursue price quotes and funding from D-11 for the above projects. Each motion passed with 20 in favor and 2 in opposition.
Fundraising:
The
Direct Donation Fundraiser will kick off the week of September 29 – October 3,
2008 with free coffee each morning and a collection box on the playground for
donations. There will be a drawing for a prize October 3 for everyone that
donated during the week. A flyer will be
send home on Friday, September 26. A Paypal site will be set up on the ONEN website for
neighbors interested in donating.
It
is anticipated that this year’s election bake sale will have a great turn out
and has the potential to generate a lot of money. Ana Zook will be
in charge of the bake sale again this year.
