EDM (EveryDay Math) New and upgraded
This year adds more differentiation in the curriculum allowing for more depth on certain skills that kids may need
Spiral curriculum with cyclical approach
New for parents; teaches six different algorhythms gives great number sense to kids
Follows Natnl Math standards
Reference books are available for parents to check out- see your teacher
Parents are encouraged to come look at the new math books
Middle school does not continue on with the EDM program
-Help teachers with classroom content standards as well as address the library/literacy standards
-Mike reviewed the new updated Natn’l Educational Technology Standards for Students; using technology to be better thinkers focus on the process and use technology as a tool
-Mike is on a committee designed to better teach information literacy and how that can be applied to classroom standards. The committee is charged to develop a technology proficiency test for 8th grades based on the new ISTE (International Society of Technology Educators) standards in order to comply with No Child Left Behind.
-reviewed the school technology goals which are found on the school website
-we need to take the time to teach the kids to use the technology in order for them to integrate it in a proper fashion
-teaching keyboarding is a huge topic of discussion right now
-through collaboration teachers and the students gain

-Community Zone has BAAC and PTA notes and minutes
-Classroom newsletters will be posted on the website
-teachers have been sending their newsletters via email
-district calendar is posted on the website
-D11 curriculum guides are also found on the website as well
-Zangle is a parent connection site that shows current information on students such as testing, contact information, assignments
5. MAPS Test
-MAPS is a new national standardized test that replaces the Terra Nova
-all students took it this year and all tests are done on the computer
-data is available immediately, parents will have results at conferences
-staff said the test worked very well and is pleased with the assessment
6. Discussion on lunch before recess. Some kids don’t eat because they are so anxious to play. We do not have separate cafeteria and gym so that dictates the schedule. Kids start to realize that they need to eat prior to play. Assigned tables were set up to help the kids concentrate on eating first.
